- <p> DIED. Alberto Moravia, 82, the last of this century's
- celebrated Italian authors; in Rome. Born Alberto Pincherle, he
- became Italy's best-selling author since Dante, with 49 books
- translated into 37 languages. His two best-selling books dealt
- with war and women: 1947's La Romana (The Woman of Rome) and
- 1957's La Ciociara, which was turned into the movie Two Women,
- starring Sophia Loren.
